How Quattro Views The World – May 2023 Market Returns
June 8, 2023Local is Lekker! Time to travel SA but don’t forget these 5 things
When going on holiday or travelling, there may have been a few things that you have forgotten since being on lock-down. The below list is a quick reminder to ensure peace of mind whilst travelling.
If you are driving to your destination, we would recommend considering the following
Motor Cover
Is your vehicle insured? To save costs during lock-down, many reduced their short-term insurance cover as they were not travelling. If you have not reinstated your comprehensive cover, or are not sure what your vehicle is currently insured at, please contact your broker or Quattro Sure to confirm.
Roadside Assistance
There is always a chance of something going wrong when travelling far distances. Contact your broker or Quattro Sure to ensure that you have roadside assistance on your policy. Save and have all emergency numbers ready in case you need them.
Roadside Assistance Benefits may include the following:
- Flat Battery Assistance – Jump Starting or replacement.
- Flat Tyre Assistance
- Locksmith Services
- Fuel Assistance (limited to a specific number of litres per incident).
- Tow Services for mechanical or electrical breakdown.
- Overnight Emergency Accommodation
Trailer, Caravan and Boat Cover
It is vital to ensure that your caravan and/or loaded trailers are included on your short-term insurance policy schedule, and that they have the correctly insured. It is common to forget to add your trailer if it does not cost a lot to replace. However, what many do not know is that you may be liable for any costs to a third party, should your trailer or caravan cause damage to them.
- Contents within your trailer, caravan or boat: Ensure that your contents are covered under your All Risk Covers.
- Towing Load: Do not exceed your towing load limit capacity as your insurer can reject a claim if you have exceeded it. Contact Quattro Sure to ensure you understand your policy and towing loads.
License Types
This is something that most people do not even think about when travelling. There are a few variations for license types, and these determine what you may/may not tow on your vehicle. This will have an impact on what is, or is not, covered, which depends on your license type:
- Code B: GVM must be less than 3500 kg and the trailer being towed must be less than 750 kg. You are not allowed to tow a caravan with the code B license.
- Code EB: You can tow both a trailer or caravan (not at the same time).
If you are staying at home, please remember to use a Drive-Me-Home or Chauffeur Service
Chauffeur Service
Your insurance company will take you to your family function and collect you at a designated time. Depending on your policy, you have 6 trips per annum, and within a 50 km radius. This is a free service. Call Quattro Sure today to see if your policy has this service.
Drive-Me-Home Service
You would drive to your function (in your insured vehicle), and would have the option of arranging with your insurance company to collect you at a specific time – taking you home safely in your vehicle. Remember that insurance will not entertain a motor claim should you have been intoxicated at the time of the incident. If this benefit is free, why not use it?
