Maintenance Issue related claims
Your insurer will typically reject a claim for Maintenance Issues if an issue has been caused by natural events over time, such gutters eroding with the rain, wear & tear on roof tiles, or trees growing under bricks or swimming pools (causes walls or a swimming pool to crack or collapse).
Incorrect Construction related claims
As a homeowner, unless your house is newly built, you may not know about a retainer wall that was not approved by an engineer, or that your ceiling doesn’t have the correct waterproofing material. When purchasing a house or building, we encourage you to have your building plans reviewed to ensure what is on your property are on your plans. Additionally, particularly for older buildings and houses, we recommend having your property inspected by a certified builder as they would be able to point out problem areas (such as waterproofing in the ceiling). Going forward with any renovations or home modifications, we recommend that these changes are approved by an engineer to ensure a future claim isn’t rejected because of ‘incorrect construction’.
